15 sections about your treatment
We want you to be able to make a secure and well-informed decision. Here is the whole service specification, from the first consultation to follow-up, from risks to your rights as a patient.
01.About the treatment
With us you receive a treatment that combines proven technique with your body’s own natural processes. We want you to feel confident from the very start about what a hair transplant involves and how it works.
A hair transplant with the DHI technique (Direct Hair Implantation) means that small units of hair follicles are taken from the back of the head (the donor area) using a very fine drill (micro-punch).
Each unit of hair follicles is called a graft. A graft can contain 1 to 4 hairs. Grafts with a single hair are often used to create a natural hairline, while grafts with several hairs are placed further back to add fullness. A graft is 0.7-0.9 mm in size depending on the number of follicles and the thickness of the hair.
The graft is then placed directly into the recipient area with a special precision tool called the Choi Implanter Pen. The tool creates small openings at the moment of insertion, which means we do not need to make incisions or channels in advance. Usually only the donor area is shaved. This lets us create a natural result, with high density and minimal risk of visible scars.
PRP and follow-ups
To give the follicles the best possible conditions, the transplant is combined with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). We take a small blood sample, concentrate the platelets and inject the plasma into the scalp. The plasma is rich in growth factors that support healing and stimulate follicle growth.
The PRP treatments are included in the transplant and are planned as follows:
- The first PRP treatment is given immediately after the transplant.
- Three further PRP treatments are given during the first six months.
Follow-up visits are included in the transplant and are planned as follows:
- Month 4: check of healing and the first signs of new growth.
- Month 6: evaluation of density, hairline shape and overall impression.
- Month 12: final assessment of the result, comparison with before photos and any planning of complementary measures.
By combining PRP with regular follow-ups we can track progress together step by step, from the first treatment to the final result, to ensure the best possible outcome and peace of mind.
02.Who the treatment suits
A hair transplant with the DHI technique is an option for you who want to regain fuller hair and a natural hairline. It may be the right treatment if you have:
- hereditary hair loss
- thinning hair
- smaller bald areas
What you can expect
The goal is to recreate denser hair and a natural hairline that follows your own conditions. The result develops gradually and it is common to see clear improvements within 6-12 months. It is good to know that the effect can vary. Factors that influence it include:
- your hair quality
- your age
- hereditary conditions
- how carefully you follow the after-care advice
At the clinic we follow up the result together with you so that you feel secure throughout the whole process.
03.Alternatives to treatment
A hair transplant is always a voluntary measure. To help you make a confident decision, it is important to know that there are other options:
- Not having treatment at all, if you do not feel that the hair loss affects your everyday life.
- Medical treatment, for example minoxidil or finasteride (men only), which can slow hair loss but does not always increase hair density.
- PRP treatment without a transplant, which can strengthen existing follicles and sometimes give some new growth.
- Choosing another hair transplant method, for example the FUE technique.
- Cosmetic solutions, such as hair-fibre products, hair systems or a wig.
- In some cases a combination of methods gives the best result, for example PRP together with medication.
We are happy to go through the pros and cons of the different options together with you, so that you can choose what feels best for your needs and wishes.
04.Side effects and risks
All medical treatments can cause some side effects. Most people who have a DHI hair transplant experience only mild and temporary discomfort. Here we describe what can occur and how we work to minimise the risks.
Common and passing discomfort
It is normal to experience some skin reactions during the first few days:
- Swelling, redness, tenderness or small bruises.
- Itching in the treated area.
- Temporary hair shedding, also called ”shock loss”, before the new hair grows in.
- Mild headache or tingling after PRP.
- These usually resolve on their own.
More unusual risks
In rare cases the following can occur:
- Infection.
- Scarring: With FUE small dot-shaped scars always form in the donor area where the follicles are taken. These scars are permanent but usually very discreet and are not visible once the hair has grown out. The risk of more visible scars is small.
- Unevenness or small pigment changes in the skin.
When the treatment is not suitable
We do not carry out the treatment if you have any of the following:
- Ongoing infection.
- Untreated diabetes.
- A blood-clotting disorder (coagulation disorder).
- A known allergy to local anaesthesia.
- Severe mental illness.
How we minimise the risks
To make the treatment as safe as possible:
- We always make a medical assessment before the procedure.
- The treatment is performed by licensed personnel, using sterile technique.
- You receive clear after-care instructions, which are important to follow for the best result.
IVO-registered practice
Hair TP Clinic AB is registered with the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO). Serious incidents are reported under Lex Maria.

06.Consultation and consent
Before you decide on a hair transplant with DHI, we always book a personal consultation. It is your opportunity to ask questions, get a clear picture of the treatment and see what suits you.
Ahead of the consultation we send a written service specification containing preparations, after-care advice and common questions that you can read through in peace before the visit.
During the consultation we go through:
- Your health declaration, medical background and any medication.
- Your goals and how many hair follicles (grafts) can be moved.
- Planning and drawing of your future hairline.
- Photo documentation of your starting point, used for the plan and to follow up the result.
- Practical information about preparations, the procedure, after-care, alternatives to treatment and prices.
After the visit you receive:
- A personal price proposal (valid for 3 months).
- A treatment agreement with a consent form that you need to sign if you choose to proceed.
07.How to prepare (before the treatment day)
For you to get the best possible result and to reduce the risk of complications, it is important that you prepare carefully. Here is our advice:
Medication
- Do not take painkillers containing ibuprofen or other NSAIDs (e.g. Ipren) in the days before the procedure.
- If you use blood-thinning medication, always consult your regular doctor first.
- Inform us of all medication you take, and of any illnesses or allergies.
Lifestyle
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine during the 48 hours before the treatment.
- Avoid nicotine and snus for at least 48 hours before, and smoking for at least 1 week before.
Food and clothing
- Eat a light meal before you arrive (you should not fast).
- Shower the same day.
- Wear clean, comfortable clothes, ideally with buttons or a zip at the front, so you do not have to pull anything over your head afterwards.
Important to bring
- Valid ID.
08.How the treatment day works
When you arrive at the clinic we want you to feel secure and well informed. Here is an overview of what the day looks like:
Before the treatment begins
- You fill in a health declaration and show ID.
- We measure your blood pressure and take a blood sample for the PRP treatment.
- The plan is confirmed: we go through the drawing of your hairline and the areas to be treated.
- The donor area (usually the back of the head) is shaved. The recipient area usually does not need to be shaved.
Local anaesthesia
So that you are pain-free during the treatment you are given local anaesthesia. We use:
- Carbocain® (mepivacaine) with adrenaline
- Marcain® (bupivacaine) with adrenaline
Adrenaline can be given separately to reduce bleeding and prolong the effect. Tribonat is used as a buffer solution. Adrenaline with sodium chloride is given separately to reduce bleeding.
The procedure itself
- Units of hair follicles (grafts) are extracted with a very fine tool (micro-punch).
- The grafts are placed directly into the recipient area with an instrument called the Choi Implanter Pen. No incisions are made in the recipient area.
- The transplant itself takes several hours. You are of course given breaks along the way.
- When the transplant is complete you receive a PRP treatment, which supports healing and stimulates follicle growth.
After the treatment is finished
- We go through the after-care instructions with you.
- You take home the medication you need.
Competence and responsibility
- Only a licensed physician is responsible for prescriptions and delegation.
- Only licensed nurses can receive delegated tasks.
Patient and liability insurance
Full patient and liability insurance through Folksam. As a patient you are always protected under current regulations.
09.After-care instructions
After a hair transplant the after-care is at least as important as the procedure itself. You always receive both verbal and written instructions. By following the advice below you give the follicles the best possible conditions to heal and grow, while reducing the risk of complications. We are here for you if anything feels unclear, do not hesitate to get in touch. Here is the most important advice:
Medication
- You receive antibiotics (Dalacin) to prevent infection.
- You receive cortisone (Betapred) to reduce swelling.
- You receive painkillers (Paracetamol) as needed.
- Avoid NSAIDs (e.g. Ipren) for the first 72 hours.
- Never take medication you are allergic to and always tell us about allergies.
Bandage
- The bandage over the donor area should stay on for at least 24 hours (max 48 hours).
- Remove it gently with clean hands, moisten if needed.
- The bandage should not be re-applied.
Sleep
- Sleep on your back with your head slightly raised for the first 2-3 nights, longer if possible.
- Use a neck pillow if it feels comfortable.
- Place a clean towel or a disposable pad on the pillow.
Hair washing
- Wait at least 72 hours before washing your hair.
- Rinse gently with a weak stream of water.
- Lather a mild shampoo in your hand and dab gently over the whole head.
- Let the shampoo work for 2 minutes, then rinse gently in the direction of the hair.
- Dry by air-drying or dabbing gently with kitchen paper. Avoid a terry towel for 4 weeks.
- After 5 days you can start massaging gently with your palm.
- Shower daily until all crusts have come off. Increase the water pressure gradually.
If crusts remain after 7 days:
- Shower twice a day.
- Let the shampoo sit for up to 15 minutes.
- Massage gently in the direction of the hair until the crusts come off on their own.
Clothing, cap and hat
- Wear clothes that are not pulled over the head during the first few days.

- Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 48 hours.
- Avoid exercise and sexual activity for 14 days.
- Wait at least 4 weeks before sauna, bathing and pool.
- Avoid strong sun and sunbeds for the first month.
- Use SPF 50 sun protection for 6 months when you are in the sun.
Cutting and styling
- After 1 week you can trim the donor area.
- After 4 weeks you can carefully cut the transplanted hair (at least 3 mm).
- Avoid a razor for 6 months.
- Avoid styling products for 4 weeks.
10.PRP treatments and follow-up visits
To give you the best possible result, both PRP treatments and follow-ups are included. They are important for supporting healing, strengthening the follicles and making sure you are happy with the result.
PRP treatments included
- The first is given immediately in connection with the transplant.
- The following three are planned during the first six months.
- At each PRP visit we also follow up on how the healing is going.
In addition, three scheduled follow-up visits are included to make sure the result develops as planned:
- Month 4: check of healing and the first signs of new growth.
- Month 6: evaluation of hair density, hairline shape and overall impression.
- Month 12: final assessment of the result, comparison with your before photos and a discussion of any complementary measures.
This way we together keep good control over the whole process, from start to final result.
11.Guarantee for follicle survival
We want you to feel secure in your decision. That is why we guarantee that up to 95% of the transplanted follicles survive under optimal conditions.
For the guarantee to apply you need to:
- follow all preparations and after-care instructions carefully
- completely abstain from nicotine and tobacco both before and after the treatment
Important to know:
The result is also influenced by heredity and whether hair loss continues in untreated areas. The guarantee does not cover continued hair loss in areas that have not been treated. The result is always evaluated together with the clinic. If a correction is needed, it is planned based on a medical assessment and agreement.

15.Comparison between DHI and FUE
How our two hair transplant methods differ
We use both DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). Both are modern, proven techniques that give natural results. The difference lies mainly in how the follicles are inserted.
Similarities
- Units of hair follicles are extracted one by one with a micro-punch from the donor area.
- The methods leave small, discreet dot scars in the donor area that are not visible once the hair has grown out.
- The transplant is combined with PRP for the best healing and stimulation of the follicles.
- The results develop gradually over 6-12 months.
Differences, DHI
- The graft is placed directly into the recipient area with a precision instrument (Choi Implanter Pen).
- No prepared channels are needed, the opening and insertion happen at the same time.
- Often only the donor area needs to be shaved, the recipient area can sometimes be left unshaved.
Differences, FUE
- After extraction, small channels are made in the recipient area.
- The follicles are then placed manually into these channels.
- Usually both the donor and recipient areas are shaved for the best precision.
Which method suits you?
The choice depends on your goals, hair quality and how many follicles need to be moved. We go through this together at the consultation.
