Hair loss after covid and other infections
Many people experience heavy hair loss a couple of months after covid or another febrile illness. It is a form of telogen effluvium — almost always temporary.
- → Diffuse loss across the whole head

- → Onset 2-3 months after the infection
- → No bald patches
- → Fever and infection (incl. covid-19)
- → Physical stress during illness
- → Sometimes a concurrent nutritional deficiency
- → Time — the hair usually recovers
- → Optimised nutrition
- → PRP as support
- → Blood tests if it drags on

Questions about hair loss after covid and other infections
Is hair loss after covid permanent?
Almost never. It is telogen effluvium — the follicles are temporarily dormant, not damaged. The hair recovers on its own in most cases within 6–12 months.
Why did the hair loss come several months after I recovered?
That is typical of telogen effluvium. The follicles enter the resting phase during the strain and only shed 2–3 months later, which is why the loss often comes when you already feel recovered.
What can I do to help the hair come back?
Ensure good nutrition (iron, protein), sleep properly and be patient. PRP can be used as support. If it drags on beyond a year, another cause should be investigated with blood tests.
