Hair transplantation today comes in two main variants: FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). Both extract follicles from the donor area at the back of the head, but the methods differ in how the follicles are planted in the recipient area.
FUE — the classic method
With FUE we first create small channels in the skin where the follicles are then placed. The micro-punch is 0.7–0.9 mm, which gives microscopic scars that are invisible. The method suits most people and works excellently for larger areas and hairline restoration.
DHI — the modern development
With DHI a specially designed Choi pen is used to extract and implant the follicle in one continuous motion. This reduces the time the follicle is exposed outside the skin and allows very dense placement. DHI usually does not require shaving the recipient area — a big advantage if you want to keep a normal appearance right after treatment.
Which fits you?
For larger bald areas: FUE is often most effective. For densification: DHI gives the highest control. For female hair loss: DHI, since you avoid shaving all your hair. At your free consultation we make an assessment based on your scalp and your goals.
Frequently asked questions about hair transplantation
Is FUE or DHI better?
+
Both give equivalent end results. DHI does not require shaving the recipient area, which gives a more discreet recovery. FUE is slightly faster and slightly cheaper. The choice depends on your circumstances.
Does DHI cost more than FUE with you?
+
Yes. FUE from 42,000 SEK (1,000 grafts) to 66,000 SEK (4,000 grafts). DHI from 52,000 SEK (1,000 grafts) to 64,000 SEK (2,500 grafts). DHI costs more per graft because the technique is more precision-demanding.
Will I be shaved for DHI?
+
No, that is the whole point of DHI — we only shave the donor area (back of the head, hidden by remaining hair). The recipient area stays unshaved, which makes recovery discreet.
