Redness and visible blood vessels in the face are often grouped under the terms rosacea and couperose. Couperose refers to the visible, dilated superficial blood vessels (telangiectasia), while rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that causes persistent redness, warmth, flushing and sometimes small bumps. They often go together.

Here we want to be straight and honest, because this is an area where the wrong treatment can do more harm than good. Rosacea is a medical condition, and it primarily belongs with a dermatologist. Treatment is based on calming the inflammation (often with prescription creams or tablets), avoiding triggers (sun, heat, alcohol, spicy food, stress) and daily sun protection. For the visible vessels (couperose) specifically, IPL or vascular laser is the gold standard, a treatment that targets the vessels directly.

Microneedling and PRP, on the other hand, are not first-line for rosacea and couperose. On active, inflamed rosacea, microneedling can even trigger a flare, and it does not remove visible vessels. When the rosacea is well under control and calm, gentle treatments can in some cases support skin quality, but it must be done cautiously and individually.

At a free consultation we look at your skin and are honest: if we suspect rosacea, we guide you to the right care first, and explain what we can and cannot help with.

01Can microneedling cure rosacea?
No. Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that belongs with a dermatologist. On active rosacea, microneedling can even trigger a flare. When the skin is calm, gentle treatments can in some cases support skin quality, but they do not cure the condition.
02What helps best against visible vessels (couperose)?
For visible superficial blood vessels, IPL or vascular laser is the gold standard, because they target the vessels directly. Microneedling and PRP do not remove visible vessels.
03What do I do if I think I have rosacea?
Seek a dermatologist assessment. The core treatment is medical, calm the inflammation, avoid triggers and use daily sun protection. At a consultation with us we guide you correctly and are honest about what we can help with.
